#WCW | Dr. Brittney Cooper

This week our #WCW is Dr. Brittney Cooper. She is the Assistant Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Africana Studies at Rutgers University. Her areas of specialty are facinating, as a Black feminist theorist, with a focus on Hip Hop generation feminisim, and representation of race and gender in pop culture. 

She is an incredible writer, as a contributor for Salon, as well she has had her work published in many outlets including: New York Times, the Washington Post, Cosmo.com, TV Guide, the Los Angeles Times, Ebony.com, The Root.com, and more. These paired with her upcoming book Race Women: Gender and the Making of a Black Public Intellectual Tradition (University of Illinois Press) she has made great progress in sharing the role of the history Black women’s thought leadership in the U.S., with a focus on the future. 

As a co-founder of the Crunk Feminist Collective, a popular feminist blog, she was named to the Root.com’s Root 100, an annual list of Top Black Influencers, in 2013 and 2014.
